Digex Turns to Apptix for Turnkey Exchange Services
By ASPnews.com Staff

March 11, 2003

Apptix, a Sterling, Va.-based private-label ASP, today announced that managed hosting provider Digex Inc. will deploy Apptix Exchange on Demand for Service Providers to deliver turnkey hosted business messaging and collaboration applications.

Under the agreement, Beltsville, Md.-based Digex will sell hosted messaging services based on Apptix platform to enterprise customers beginning in the second quarter. The service will be deployed in Digex SmartCenter data centers and is designed to offer customers e-mail, shared calendaring and contact management based on the Microsoft Exchange 2000 platform.

"Our selection by one of the world's largest providers of managed services validates the shift to on-demand computing," said Alex Hawkinson, CEO of Apptix, in a statement. "We recognize that service providers are interested in adding higher-margin services while reducing associated financial and operational risks."

The Apptix platform is also designed to offer Digex the capability to easily extend messaging administration capabilities to its customers. These capabilities, based on the Apptix TECOS service management platform, include the following:

  • Automated, on-demand provisioning of multiple service tiers for new users, ranging from simple POP e-mail to Exchange messaging, as well as a one-step upgrade path for existing users.
  • Self-service administration capabilities designed to allow control of the messaging service across the entire enterprise.
  • Delivery of add-on on-demand services to users (e.g., Blackberry support and wireless access).
  • Scheduled and on-demand usage reporting.

"We selected Apptix as our partner because of its expertise with Microsoft Exchange, its TECOS service management platform, and superior marketing support programs," said Martha Gilbertson, vice president of e-enablement solutions at Digex.

As part of the agreement, Digex will have access to Apptix's Revenue Assurance Program (RAS), a sales and marketing support program that's designed to build on Apptix's experience in marketing and provisioning outsourced messaging services.

In December, Apptix and HP announced a three-year agreement in which the private-label Microsoft Exchange ASP will provide application and managed services as well marketing support to drive HP's Exchange on Demand program (see Apptix, HP Offer Exchange On Demand).

Apptix and Digex are listed by ASPnews as a Top 30 Service Enablers.
