Network Intelligence Tightens Small Business Security
By Colin C. Haley

June 20, 2002

Security breaches at small businesses don't grab headlines like hacks on a Fortune 500 firm -- but that doesn't mean they are any less devastating.

With that in mind, Network Intelligence, a Walpole maker of network security software, has released a new version of its Private I product.

"Many of our customer wins come from the (small to medium-sized business) market," said Matt Stevens, a Network Intelligence vice president. "We want to continue to drive the growth of this segment."

The offering, Private I version 7, provides IT executives with a picture of network usage and security measure, and issues security alerts when it picks up suspicious activity. The system monitors up to 10 devices and captures up to 500 events per second.

Improvements over the old version include a fully Web-based interface and faster reporting times. The software is priced form $1,500 and works with a variety of network and security devices including those from Check Point, Cisco, Intel and Internet Security Systems.

The company also sells an enterprise product, enVision, that works on larger, more complex systems. It is aimed at finance, health, professional and government customers.

Network Intelligence is privately held. In April, it changed its name from OpenSystems.com, to better reflect its focus. In addition to its Bay State base, the firm has six regional offices.
