A new online catalogue from hosted groupware vendor Interliant offers instant subscription by credit card to a selection of rentable business applications. Announced to coincide with the Lotusphere Europe show in Berlin, the Interliant AppsOnline site hosts software from small independent developers.
The first applications on offer are the Lotus Instant!Teamroom groupware package, a Year 2000 project manager from Earley & Associates, a sales team information manager from Synergistic Inc, a hiring management HR package from Skillset Software Inc and a real estate transaction co-ordinator from Titlelink LLC. "Several of the applications that are being created are new and unique to this platform," Interliant's VP product management Robert Dana told ASP News Review.
Interliant is positioning the site as a complementary distribution channel through which smaller ISVs (independent software vendors) can reach a global marketplace. It is also using the site to promote the concept of online rentable applications and its software hosting platform, which it sells to other ASPs (application service providers).
Vendors can opt for one of three different licensing models for applications hosted on the site. 'Instant' applications have a fully automated subscription process using online credit card payment. 'Quick' applications are normally paid for using a company purchase order. Once payment has been verified, hosting staff manually initialise the application for the user. 'Advanced' applications are more sophisticated, requiring at least several days' implementation time. They can be configured for access either over the public Internet or within a private intranet or extranet.
Most of the first batch of applications available on the site run on the Domino Instant! Host platform jointly developed by Interliant and Lotus for hosting rentable online applications. They are accessed using a Web browser. Others run on Lotus Notes and require a Notes client.
