NEW YORK -- Xerox Corp. used the spotlight of the TechXNY show here to release an enhanced, Web-based document management software designed to help facilitate collaborative workflows for a customer's sprawling user base.

At a kickoff event dubbed "DigitalFocus" Monday night, Xerox officials demonstrated DocuShare 3.1 -- Xerox's new version of its document and content management software. Using pre-determined templates that can also be customized, office workers can easily create Web pages, Web logs, to-do lists and other applications to improve collaboration.

The technology was developed out of Xerox's renowned Palo Alto Research Center. The upgrade comes at the same time that Xerox is announcing the Phaser 6250 color laser printer, the 3450 black-and-white laser printer and the multifunctional WorkCentre PE16 copier/printer, fax and color scanner.

"In April, we introduced 21 new and enhanced office products that have advanced our position in the office. Now we're taking another significant step to further strengthen our position and better serve our customers," said Ursula Burns, president, Xerox Business Group Operations.

The entry-level list price for a basic DocuShare system with 10 seats is $4,045 and a 100-seat system is $9,995, with add-on components priced separately. DocuShare 3.1 is available beginning Oct. 15. The Phaser 6250, Phaser 3450 and WorkCentre PE16 are available immediately.
