February ASPnews Top 50
By ASPnews.com Staff
February 15, 2004

This month sees the return to our Top 25 Providers list of one of the founding members. Intranets.com stayed on the list from its inception in April 2001 until September 2002, when the company was dislodged by Agilera.

At the time, we lauded Intranets for successfully transitioning its business from a mainly ad-funded model to an entirely paid subscription model, retaining a loyal user base among small-to-mid-sized businesses. At the same time, we expressed concerns that its low per-user subscription fees had held back growth in the company's revenues compared to others on the list.

Our concerns have since been allayed, and we're happy to welcome back one of our founding members, showing the durability of yet another successful company dedicated to the ASP model.

As always, with an addition comes a subtraction from the list, so we must bid farewell to Groove Networks. We still find Groove's peer-to-peer technology for group collaboration intriguing, and expect the company to achieve great success in the future. However, we feel that the present success of Intranets.com merits that company's inclusion on our list.

Our Enablers list remains unchanged, though we may see a change with the resolution to the PeopleSoft/Oracle situation, though we won't hold our breath for that event.

There are quite a few companies that we consider to be just outside the Top 50, which is a good sign for the industry. Not long ago, we may have had trouble filling out such a list, and we see our current difficulty in choosing between several qualified contenders for our lists as a heartening development.
