Apr 14th 2000: Documentum launched a support program for ASPs and named the first five partners using the scheme this week. Thirty-five more have already applied to sign up, company officials said. The ASPire program aims to assist ASPs, system integrators and consultants in offering subscription applications and services based on the vendor's content management platform, which launched in a new version this week. Gerry Machi, VP application hosting business, told ASPnews.com that Documentum wanted to allow smaller and mid-size companies to benefit from its products without having to completely redesign the technology for small-scale implementations. Documentum currently has five ASPire Solution partners and will sign an additional 35 within the next couple of months. The five include ConnectSite.com (based in Chicago, IL), Cylex Systems Inc (Boca Raton FL), Informative Graphics Corp (Phoenix AZ) and Level 3 subsidiary PKSIS Information Services Inc (Omaha NE), which will act as an ASP infrastructure hosting provider to other members of the ASPire program. Longstanding document management ASP Cylex Systems this week announced a new family of application services based on the Documentum platform. The announcement complements its existing file storage and retrieval service for scanned documents with a new, fully-featured content management option. "Traditional applications are not built to fit the ASP business delivery model, and our relationship with Documentum proves this," Zijad Aganovic, president and CEO of CyLex. "Documentum understands the documentation side very well, while we cover the service provider angle in this partnership." Machi agreed. "We are not in the business of supporting the end user, but in the business of supporting the ASP who in turn supports the end users," he said. To date, Documentum has identified over 400 potential ASP partners, he added. The ASPire program provides ASPs with monthly licensing terms for the Documentum software, supporting the subscription-based revenue model. ASPire partners will have the added support of an ASP technology consultant and of Documentum's sales and marketing program to help sell its service. "We have a compensation plan in place to reward our sales team for selling ASPire partner applications," Machi said. The announcements were made in New York at the AIIM conference, the premier annual event for the document management industry.
